Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a health program for community-dwelling elderly women that improves their perceived health status, Interpersonal relations, self-esteem, depression, cognitive function, and successful aging.

Methods : A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. Elderly women who agreed to participate in this study were assigned to either an experimental group(n£½45) or a control group(n£½41). The health Management program was conducted once a week for 12 weeks. Study outcomes were measured by structured questionnaires from March, to June 2019. For data analysis, a chi-square test, an independent t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test were performed using SPSS version 23.0.

Results : Interpersonal relations(z£½-2.39, p£½.017), depression(z£½-2.27, p£½.023), cognitive function(z£½-4.47, p£¼.001), successful aging(t£½2.22, p£½.031) in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of elderly women in the control group.

Conclusion : The health Management program was effective on Interpersonal relations, depression, cognitive function, and successful aging for elderly women in the community. It can be recommended as a public health program for the elderly population in the community.
